The Airbus A321 XLR’s narrow body and improved fuel storage capacity mean smaller airports can now offer long-haul flights. XLR stands for Extra Long Range. Flight times can be up to 10 or even 11 hours, allowing it to cover the entire world despite not being a widebody.
The new aircraft, which entered service this month, is set to change the way we fly – and challenge the dominance of mega-airports such as Heathrow, Frankfurt and Schiphol in the process. These airports rely heavily on transfer passengers.
There are already 500 orders in hand.
