Milan–Malpensa Airport is an international airport near the largest city in northern Italy, Milan. It is located about 45 km north-west of the centre of Milan in the province of Varese, near Case Nuove, Ferno and Lonate Pozzolo. In 2016, Malpensa handled 548,769 tonnes of freight, making it the largest cargo airport in Italy.
In addition to Malpensa, there is a second international Milanese airport, Linate. Both are operated by SEA-Aeroporti di Milano, majority owned by the city and province of Milan. A third “Milanese” airport, Orio al Serio Airport near Bergamo, is mainly used for freight traffic and by low-cost airlines.
