The only way to reduce the harmful effects of air traffic in the short and medium term is to reduce the number of flights. This realization seems to be getting through in the Netherlands, given the cabinet decision to reduce the number of flight movements by 12 percent.

But does this stem from an awareness of the harmfulness of flying too much or is it purely motivated by the threat of legal sanctions?
